We all need moments to renew and refresh our energies and enthusiasms.
I just spent 30 minutes sitting in my back yard, listening to the birds and feeling the warm sun and gentle breeze on my body. This made my heart sing.
There are as many ways for this to happen as there are people in the world. But for you to discover what makes your heart sing will be the key to living well.
Consider the possibilities: Fellowship with a long, lost friend. Baking cookies with a child. Visiting the Holy Land and seeing first-hand where Jesus walked. Spending the day at the library.
This exercise doen't have to be expensive and it doesn't have to take you far. I like to call my trip to my back yard earlier today a "mini-vacation". It accomplished a renewal in me, a fresh perspective, and a desire to move forward in my day and in my calling.
Make time in your day, month, year for these impromptu "mini-vacations" or scheduled true sabbaticals. Warning: Don't feel guilty about it! If you don't give your heart permission to sing, no one else will.
So go ahead....and enjoy the music! "O sing to the Lord a new song!" (Ps 96:1)
Great post, Beth!
I was working on a study for my small group, and one question - who do you consider to be a role model for you? - got me thinking. I tend to see qualities in people that I admire and aspire to, so most everyone in my life is inspiring in some way. But on this earth, I think I admire you most of all - you are a wonderful role model to me and many others, too, so thank you, my friend, for being so excellent in your example and in your pursuit of the Lord!
Love you!
